Letter From Sharon George

(May  2010)

I just wanted to comment as a new member on the APHA committee and in particular Jan Lovett.
I am new to the show scene and was at first very nervous. Jan spent a lotof time on the phone with me, sometimes on a Sunday, reassuring me and answering all my questions. I learnt a lot from her, and others in the committee that I have emailed about various things, and would like to thank them for their patience and knowledge. Without people like Jan, people like me coming into this sport would be lost. "Three cheers" for the committee and the work that they do. Please be assured that you are appreciated and I thank you all for your welcoming attitude. This will only attract more people to the club I am sure. Hope to see you all next season.

Sharon George

BAMBI

Hi There,-Just wanted to send in a little story about my gelding Bambi.  Story below and photo attached. Teresa Lombardo

In this day and age, in this throw away society there are very few things that last 20 years.  Not cars, rarely friendships and even more rarely marriages.  However, for Bambi and I, this year marks 20 years of the greatest friendship I have ever known.  A friendship that has taught me so much about unconditional love, about respect for all things and for my self.

20 years ago my horsy dreams were simple.  All I wanted was either a jet black horse with 4 white socks and a white star (like Black Beauty) or a palomino.  In 1989 I looked out into a grassy paddock and my dream was about to come true.

By No one and out of Some mare in the paddock Bambi, as I would name him, was of no pedigree or quality but I loved him all the same.  Now 20 years later I look at this 14.1hh gelding and I cant remember a time without him.

I am proud to say that his mane has worn many more tears and his ears have heard many more stories of my hopes and dreams than I can remember having.  He was never to busy to spend time with me and he never broke my heart (the perfect man really).

Someone once told me that it costs as much to keep a champion in the paddock as it does an average pony and I guess in the world of breeding, showing and selling that is important but in the world of a 20 year friendship my consistently 2nd placed friend gave me everything I needed and looking at him out my window now he still does.

This is my salute to my friend Bambi.

Goldstead Bonsai and Max

On Saturday 28th of February my 10 year old son Max took his lovely Galloway ‘Ajax’ to the Berwick show. This was Max’s first experience in the Palomino ring and he had a wonderful day. At first he was very nervous and kept on asking ‘where are all the kids?’ And ‘Why are there only grownups here’ but soon he was chatting happily to many of the competitors. I would like to thank all the wonderful people there on the day of the Berwick show who made Max and I feel so welcome and helped us with advice on the eticate of the Palomino classes. It was great to feel the support of all those with their beautiful ‘Pally’ Horses. Thank you all for the welcome you  gave my son Max .He is now very keen to take “Ajax” to more Palomino rings. This was a wonderful advertisement for the Palomino HBA who showed the true meaning of having fun and supporting each other with their horses.

For Max ,Ajax isn’t a show horse alone. He goes to pony club where he loves games and show jumping and Max and Ajax’s favorite thing is a “Hoon " around the block afterschool. They also just love hanging out together.

Thank you all again and Max, Ajax and I hope to see amy of you out and about again.
Regards Liz
